States staring down barrel of more extreme weather

Weather extremes continue to be felt across the east coast of Australia as multiple states shiver through a brutal cold snap a week out from summer as widespread flooding endures.

A s chilly conditions grip the east coast, a community in NSW is being told to evacuate as waters rise,.

And South Australia is bracing for its own emergency.

Victoria's alpine regions have been transformed with fresh snow dumps - a week out from summer.

Incredibl scenes are playing out across Victorian snow fields, with the alps transformed with heavy dumpings of snow. 

In 48 hours, 30 centimetres has fallen at Mount Buller with similar conditions at Mount Hotham and Falls Creek.

Melbourne has recorded three days below 14C for the first time since November 1965.

Temperatures are expected to remain below average until early next year.

The chill has also gripped Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Lows of 8C and 9C were felt in Hobart and Canberra this morning respectively.

Meanwhile, there's a fresh alert regarding the flood emergency in Central West NSW.

Floodwaters are rising in Condobolin, threatening homes.

Residents in Condobolin are being told to evacuate now as flood waters rise along the Lachlan River.

It is expected to peak at 7.8 metres today.

NSW SES have built a "great wall" of sandbags to protect homes.

"Over the past six weeks we have responded to well over 400 individual request for assistance in Condobolin," the emergency service wrote.

Across the state there are 89 current flood warnings current. Of these, 14 are at emergency level.

South Australia's premier Peter Malinauskas has unveiled a $51.6 million dollar support package as the state braces.

The premier warning river levels would potentially remain high until autumn next year.
