A mad rush is expected at Australia's airports today as people take advantage of the public holiday afforded by the National Day of Mourning.
Major airports around the country are expecting bigger crowds than were seen in the April or July school holidays.
In the next two to three weeks, millions of Australians will be taking to the skies for domestic and international flights.

Sydney Airport in particular is expected to see massive crowds, with the terminals already busy ahead of 6am today.
During the upcoming holiday period, 1.65 million travellers are expected to pass through the airport's terminals.
This has prompted a contingency response, with 100 extra staff being brought on board to help manage passenger flow and get people to their gate as quickly as possible.

However, the airport is still trying to fill thousands of job vacancies left by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today's public holiday is also coinciding with the AFL grand final in Melbourne on the weekend, with the Geelong Cats taking on the Sydney Swans.
Qantas is putting on extra flights and bigger planes to make sure as many Sydney footy fans as possible can get to Melbourne for the big game.
But things aren't expected to slack off much during September as a whole.
People are advised to get to the airport two hours ahead of a domestic flight, and three hours before an international one.
