The homicide squad has been called in to investigate a man's death after council workers found a decomposing body in bushland in north-west Sydney.
Hongli Qi, 28, was last seen alive on May 11. His family last saw him at Sydney's Town Hall about 1pm and investigating police tracked down CCTV footage of him leaving a Macquarie Street apartment complex about 6pm the same day.
Police said the homicide squad had already taken over the investigation when council workers called police about 10.30am on August 16 to report a decomposing body had been found in bushland near Packer Road, Blaxlands Ridge.

That body was later confirmed to be the missing man.
Homicide detectives are appealing for public help to investigate what they've classed as a suspicious death.
Homicide squad commander Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said police were examining all of the man's movements and interactions in the days before he died.
"Detectives want to talk to anyone who may have spoken to or seen Hongli in the days and weeks before he was last seen," he said.
"His disappearance was completely out of character."

Doherty said the body was found more than 80 kilometres from where the 28-year-old was last seen.
"We have a strong belief that Hongli has been the victim of foul play," Doherty said.
"Anyone who may have information which could assist detectives is urged to contact us, so we can provide some answers and closure for Hongli's family."
