Teen's fatal Easter Show stabbing prompts message from detective

Homicide detectives are ramping up the search for the person who fatally stabbed a father-to-be at the Easter Show and left another teen wounded.

Uati "Pele" Faletolu was knifed in the chest last Monday, while on break from his job working one of his rides. Police believe the confrontation was planned.

The 17-year-old was expecting a baby with his girlfriend, it was later confirmed.

A week after his death, NSW Police are appealing to Royal Easter Show visitors who filmed the stabbing to hand in their footage.

"We know there was a significant amount of people filming the incident, many of whom have not yet supplied the vision to police," Homicide Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, said.

"We are calling on these people – and anyone who may have images or videos taken at the Easter Show around the time of the incident – to upload it to us through Crime Stoppers or drop it into a local police station."

A 15-year-old boy was arrested at the scene and charged over his involvement with the brawl, but NSW Police do not believe he was responsible for the stabbing.

"It's alleged he was there with the other two boys. He remains before the courts," police said.

Mr Doherty said in matters like this police are often faced with silence.

"The Homicide Squad has a great deal experience in dealing with those connected to perpetrators or victims and their associates who are unwilling to assist due to either misguided loyalties or fear of retribution," he said.

"If you know something, say something. It only takes a moment to make a confidential call to Crime Stoppers; what you know could make a difference."

The appeal comes after Ms Faletolu's mother paid tribute to her "selfless son".

"Uati was a happy, outgoing young man with a loving heart," Jasika Faletolu posted on social media on behalf of the family.

"He was a loyal friend, a caring brother, and a selfless son and partner.

"Even with the tragic circumstances surrounding Uati's passing, we as a family do not want Uati remembered as a victim but to use this time to honour and celebrate the beautiful person that he was."

His family are waiting for his body to be returned as investigations continue.
