Suspected nail bomb explodes in Queensland backyard

A suspected nail bomb has exploded in a Queensland backyard, leaving one man seriously injured and residents shaken.

Police said they were called to the Logan address, south of Brisbane, shortly after 5.30pm yesterday after an improvised explosive device detonated.

A 52-year-old man was left with serious non-life-threatening injuries.

The device exploded yesterday afternoon leaving a man with serious but non life threatening injuries.

Residents have reported hearing multiple explosions and smoke coming from the property.

Police said their initial information suggests the man moved a bucket in the front yard of the Jacaranda Avenue home when it exploded.

A crime scene remains in place at the Logan house where an improvised explosive device detonated.

"A crime scene remains in place with specialist police on scene," police said.

"The 52-year-old resident was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with serious lower leg and concussion injuries".

An emergency declaration made under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) has since been revoked.
