First COVID-19 death in Victoria in more than a month

Victoria has recorded its first COVID-19 death in more than a month after a person previously diagnosed with coronavirus died from complications.

9News understands the person was a woman in her 70s, who was cleared of the virus in late September.

"Sadly, we have to report today that a previously cleared COVID-19 case has died from complications relating to their original diagnosis," the Department of Health and Human Services said in a post.

The fatality takes Victoria's COVID-19 death toll to 820.

The state recorded zero new cases for its 31st consecutive day.

There are zero active cases in the state as Melburnians return to the office today.

Non-essential workers will return for the first time in eight months, but only 25 per cent of the workplace is allowed back.

Masks also remain mandatory inside offices.

In less than 24 hours, Victorians and Sydneysiders will also be welcomed back to Queensland, a reprieve for the hard-hit tourism industry.

Billions of dollars is set to be injected into Queensland's economy once the borders reopen tomorrow.

Australia's Trade Minister Simon Birmingham this morning said NSW and Victoria were collectively worth $8 billion to Queensland's tourism industry.

He urged tourists to book tours and experiences, rather than just flights and accommodation.

"There's thousands of small business, tens of thousands of jobs potentially all desperately reliant on seeing visitors come back," he said.

"So please book, make your plans and get out there and support them."
