The Bomb Response Unit (BRU) has detonated a pipe bomb after a passer-by found it on a nature strip in Melbourne's north-west yesterday.
Police were called to Woods Street in Ascot Vale about 4pm following the discovery of a suspicious device.
Officers established an exclusion zone, with local residents told to stay indoors.
The BRU attended and caused the pipe bomb to explode. There were no injuries or property damage.
Moonee Valley Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or has CCTV footage to come forward.
