Queensland bolsters contact-tracing efforts as state total rises

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the state government will be increasing its contact-tracing efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Ms Palaszczuk said authorities would be given new powers to track and enforce quarantine orders.

Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath said the efforts of law enforcement agencies would be focused on monitoring people's movements and compliance with isolation orders.

"When people are put on quarantine and isolation orders, we need the public to understand this: these are not voluntary orders, they are enforceable at law and they will be enforced," she said.

Overnight Queensland recorded 55 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the state's total to 743.
